5 Behavioral assessment of behavior
Bob Robertson
I have been looking for HDTV for several months and finally settled on this model (Samsung LN40D630). I have read many online forums (Cnet.com) about this particular device and had many concerns that turned out to be unfounded. I think it's best to approach this review with some key features, so here they are: Automotion Plus (AMP): Automotion Plus features bothered me initially. Many forum posts have complained about this. I was afraid that it might not be very flashy (i.e. too "soap opera effect"). My fears were unfounded. This feature is easy to disable and configure. I like that it can be adjusted depending on the source (your cable settings may be different for your DVD or Blu-ray player and the TV will set them the same). I really like fast motion (like hockey games) and use "transparent setting" for everything else. "Display Mode" is a cool feature that allows you to toggle AMP comparison on and off in split screen. ConnectShare: This is a feature that allows you to connect a USB hard drive or USB flash drive and play videos, music or pictures. I'm happy to report that this feature has quickly become my favorite as I have a lot of videos stored on my computer. The TV plays all major file formats well. The external HD turns off when the TV is turned off, which is very convenient (because I don't have to unplug the TV every time, and vice versa). The built-in video player interface firmware works great (pause, fast forward, and even if you close everything and come back later, it will remind you when to close). The music player interface is a bit clunky, but works great. My only gripe with the music player is that it doesn't have a dance feature. I wrote to Samsung to include such a feature in a future firmware update. Firmware Update: The first thing to do is to update the firmware. The instructions on the Samsung website (and user manual) were clear and simple. Looking forward to new updates from Samsung. As far as I know, this feature allows you to connect your TV to a PC and view videos, photos or music stored on it. I haven't set it up yet, but I downloaded and installed the Samsung Allshare software on my computer and my media server was set up in no time. Very simple and difficult. Now all I need to connect to the TV is a long Ethernet cable (you can connect to a wireless network with a dedicated USB wireless adapter, but the adapter costs more than an Ethernet cable!) I connect the TV directly to the router. Fingers crossed, even if that doesn't work, your best bet is to save the media to an external USB hard drive and plug it directly into your TV. [I'll update my review after I get a chance to test this feature.] TV picture quality: It's hard to beat Samsung in this regard. The pictures in the store are great. And my house was even better. Clean, clear, beautiful. Very happy! Sound quality and effects: This is perhaps the weakest feature of this TV. The word is usually "small". Luckily, there are a number of easily selectable default sound settings that you can use to compensate for this. The Clear Voice setting is good for speech. For personalization, an equalizer is included to balance it out a bit. I was disappointed that the device does not have a dedicated headphone jack on the side. But it only includes an "audio out" jack on the back. It works well with my wireless headphones (i.e. those with built-in volume control), but not so well with "dumb" headphones (no amplification). Since there is only one audio output jack, I had to plug in a splitter to send the audio output to my headphones and stereo, and it works fine. It also has an optical audio output, but my stereo system is primitive and does not accept such an input. I would like the audio output jack to be adjustable (i.e. the volume is controlled by the TV), but it isn't. Maybe the optical audio output is dynamic ... I don't know ... I haven't tried it. It includes the basic functions of the TV. Overall, I am very pleased with my choice. Hope this helps you!

5 Large simple LCD TV

I'm hesitant to call it a "dumb" TV, but Smart TV seems to be the moniker for many high-end products these days. Maybe the LN46D630 isn't as dumb as it looks. Which isn't bad. Actually, that's why I bought it. More on that in a bit. Before I say what I like about it, let me talk about some of the negative reviews I've read. I can't answer their experience but I can share mine, the image quality is great, I'll find more setup notes. I also had Disney Wow! The DVD helps with fine tuning. Others have mentioned shipping issues. I didn't have any problems. Amazon shipped this TV as part of a pilot delivery that was expected at the time of purchase. Very professional service. It took a little longer than the usual bulk shipping but everything was well handled and everything arrived in perfect condition. The two entered the TV room. They didn't fix it, but I didn't want to anyway. Once I set it up, everything turned on quickly and easily. You may need help installing as the base is a bit difficult to move to attach unless you are tall and strong. I bought this model because I was looking for a TV with good multimedia capabilities. offers connection. It's not cluttered with a lot of unnecessary features that I don't want or need. I don't need a TV with its own browser or apps. I connected a PC that has all these features. In fact, many gaming systems, Blu-ray players, etc. It seems silly to pay that much for a TV that does the same with the ability to connect to your own media sites. Newer models offer 3D, but that's more of a gimmick than I really need. This technology is not advanced enough to use it without thinking, and when I watch a show or a movie, I want to think about what I'm watching, not what I'm watching, so it allows me to "unconsciously" I connect everything, what I want and I have a good image when I do it. I have an antenna connected to it, a PC, a Playstation and a DVD player. Reception is good with an antenna, and since I live near Los Angeles, I have 70 to choose from. There are more than 10 channels (although I don’t understand a large percentage of them). I connected the computer to the TV with an HDMI cable and it also outputs a high definition image and sound. Seems to have the same functionality with a much larger screen, but only used for multimedia. The sound is good, not great. Now we live in an apartment, which means good sound interferes with neighbors. You can put the fan on while keeping the volume at 15 (out of 100), which means the speakers are pretty good. And certainly better than the previous model. Image quality is excellent. Deep black and bright white. They tend to be a bit darker on these Samsungs, so you need to consider if you want black or blurry images that show more detail. It hasn't bothered me yet, so it's far from a serious problem. The color is excellent and can be individually matched to your preference for a wide range of customization options. I wish they had a universal setting to set every input the same, but that's a minor issue with so many other great features. I want a TV that serves as a screen for my other media products, not a TV that replicates all of these features. I want a high-definition TV, multiple inputs for new and old components, and one that lets me tune in to what I want without paying a fortune for what I don't. It's completed and ready. Partly what I expect.

5 Very good price
Brian S.
Bought this TV to replace a broken 2006 LG plasma. Repair will cost $300-$350 so why not spend a little more on a new TV... Overall I'm very happy with the TV, excellent value for money. 1) Image Quality - Really fantastic image quality compared to my old LG Plasma. Rich colors, very low screen reflection, excellent viewing angles. I tested this and other Samsung models at my local electronics store and just from the picture I couldn't tell this model apart from some of the more expensive models. I was particularly interested in the D550, which is about $100 cheaper because it has 60Hz, but the D630 had a slight but noticeable improvement in fine details, especially when shooting moving subjects. I also thought about the D5500, but for me there was not much difference between LCD and LED, they were all the same. I understand why an LED would be attractive to people considering wall mounting, but placing it on a stand doesn't really appreciate its thinness. It makes more sense to spend the extra $100 for 120Hz on an LED. 2) The sound quality is ok, but what do you expect from a TV. It's great for a regular TV, I really like the "clear sound" mode, which makes it easy to hear conversations without turning up the volume. TV speakers sound a bit thin or muffled when watching movies. 3) Other functions. The remote works well, nothing particularly good or bad. The TV stand swivels, which is very convenient. The connection is good, 4 HDMI and 2 USB are enough for me. It doesn't have Wi-Fi built in, which I don't care about since my router is usually under the TV. So when I need an internet connection, I just plug in an ethernet cable. No web browser or apps, again this would be useless for me since I can access everything on my PS3. I tried the Allshare feature to stream videos from my computer to my TV. Nothing works, but it's easy for me to connect a portable hard drive to my TV.
