I wasn't even looking for a 3D TV, but when another bulb went out on my Sony HDTV, I decided it was time to do something new. Visit a large department store near you to check out the selection. Image quality was my priority, I'd be willing to go with a plasma if it bothered me, but I was definitely leaning towards LCD or LED. Not too shocked to find that while the plasmas were nice, they weren't "that" nice, I settled on the Sharp. Along the way, I thought I'd check out some 3D displays so I could be 100% sure I'd buy one when 3D content becomes mainstream. I looked at some Panasonic models with active shutter glasses and found that the 3D looked good, but the glasses didn't fit my head or my eyes. The DirecTV representative almost insisted that I look at the high-end Samsung model connected to the DirecTV receiver, and it immediately struck me that apparently the DirecTV remote, the Samsung remote, was playing and re-syncing all the time. is to view the item. 3D active glasses. "No thanks." I think so. Then I saw an unattractive LG display with a bucket (yes, a real bucket) of scratched passive bezels. It wasn't going to be fun, but it wasn't like I didn't have a few minutes. I was absolutely shocked. The best 3D experience I've ever seen. About two meters from the screen is a scene from an IMAX documentary where the fish is seriously out between my position and the TV. And I could see the movement of wandering fish on the nose of this fish. It was amazing, of course, and I knew it had to be pretty expensive. To my surprise, it played in the same league as the Panasonic model. I have it. When I did more research online, I found that Amazon had a better price (in fact, better than National Warehouse Club, which sells the non-3D version of this TV). I ordered on Monday and scheduled my (free) delivery for Thursday afternoon. The delivery guys came 15 minutes into my four hour delivery window with no problems. Out of the box, the picture quality of this TV is quite impressive. It was better in the store than I remembered, that's for sure. But I noticed that the movement seemed really... strange. I wasn't sure if it was my satellite box or the TV, but things didn't seem to be moving normally. After spending some time adjusting the dejudder and blur settings, I was able to normalize the motion. But then, I figured you might as well calibrate things. Using a combination of Life Blu-ray's calibration capabilities and settings suggested on various forums, I was able to get an absolutely beautiful image. Seriously, this thing looks like it costs hundreds and hundreds more to calibrate. 1080i/1080p content was absolutely brilliant. SDTV on the other hand isn't the best I've seen. It's certainly acceptable, and probably better than what's available on the LCD/LED models, but I'd probably consider getting something else if most of your playback is poor DVD quality. Part 3D. I took Tron. A copy of Legacy (a four-disc combo: 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy) and spent most of the movie with a silly grin on my face. Image quality and depth were exceptional. Don't fall for the active/passive hype. Watching 3D content with LG's passive glasses will be a pleasure for everyone who can see. And going back to my memories of Samsung devices, when LG detects 3D, a box pops up asking you to put on your glasses. that's it. No endless messing with mods to make it work. I then decided to play with some standard HD channels and 2D to 3D functionality on a Blu-ray disc and was quite surprised. Most of the time, the TV appears to process the image as you would expect in 3D. It's not something I want to do all the time, but I have to say, check out Moulin Rouge. [Blu-ray] 2D to 3D was actually pretty cool. The built-in apps were quite a mess. Connecting the TV to my WPA2 wireless network was pretty easy, and the Wii-inspired remote worked better than I expected. The Netflix and Amazon On Demand apps were both very solid, probably better than what you'll find on a Roku and miles ahead of the apps built into my Sony Blu-ray player. Other applications were less impressive. For example, viewing the Weather app takes longer than tuning into the Weather Channel. The included web browser is great for "hey, look what my TV can do," but you probably won't want to fire it up to check IMDB in the middle of a show. Overall, this is probably the best value for money. Even though I lost 5 inches of screen compared to what I originally planned to buy, the difference in image quality alone was a decent trade-off. Getting 3D was gravy to say the least. Unless this thing burns my house down, I'd be hard-pressed to offer anything under a few hundred dollars.

Note: see updates below. We've edited this review because the initial concerns we had with this TV have been addressed and fixed in a few simple steps. So scroll down to see what we've done to make this TV great. :-) ---------------------------------------------- - ---- ------------- ----- ----- ---------------------- - ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------- things. Overall, I learned that bigger is not always better. We bought the 47" version of this TV ([...]) and were absolutely blown away by the picture quality...it's amazing! (Easily a 5-star+ set.) In fact, we were so happy with this set that we thought we might want a slightly bigger TV instead, so we ordered the 55-inch model and planned to use the 47-inch throwback model. . do Well, surprisingly, we're bringing back the 55-inch TV. The picture is noticeably less authentic (grainy/pixelated/dull, even with the highest resolution Blu-ray content... and more surprisingly, the 3D made us sick. (It's so weird because we can't see 3D on 47-in. absolutely loved the model :) Shame...because we were very happy with the large size...but we would have preferred quality over quantity.Interestingly, it was my wife (who claims she doesn't like the "soap effect". new LCD) who preferred the quality. She was obviously most upset about the downsizing (so was I... although I didn't want to admit it because I wanted a bigger model) if my wife notices, trust me Then I did a comparison between the 55LW5600 and the 47LW5600, which confirmed our suspicions that even at the highest resolution the disc quality was sharper, less sharp, more pixelated/grainy and generally a little dull. the settings were there. But it didn't overcome the issues. Otherwise 47 inch model image more clear and beautiful here it is. My guess is that Resoli Motion is the same on both devices, but covers a larger area of the screen on larger devices, making artifacts easier to spot. However, I haven't found any glasses that support this. We sat about 10-12 feet away from the TV and noticed a significant improvement in our perception of picture quality when we were about 5 feet back. But our bedroom layout doesn't allow us to sit that far from the TV...so the 47" format is an obvious choice for us. I'd say that if you plan to sit closer than 12 feet to the TV, you shouldn't consider the 55-inch option. Further away you may have a better experience. 3D effect. I also learned that 3D (under certain circumstances) makes us sick. It's strange because we've always enjoyed 3D in theaters... and we loved the 3D on the 47-inch version of this TV. But this 55-inch model had some strange jittery effects, especially with time-lapse videos. We noticed a strange boxy/pixelated effect when changing scenes quickly or switching between bright scenes. too dark (and vice versa). None of these 3D issues appeared on the 47-inch version. Indeed, not only was the picture pristine, but the 3D image looked absolutely stunning (and appeared to be in full HD with no noticeable loss of resolution). So if you're (like us) debating whether to buy LG's 47-inch (47LW5600) version or the slightly larger 55-inch model, I'd recommend sticking with the 47-inch TV unless you're sitting too far away. . To define. So what else did I learn? It turns out that my wife is a video lover. Who knew?!? :------------------------------------------------ - --------------------------------------------------------------- --- --------- ----- ----UPDATE - PROBLEMS FIXED. We have found a few ways that completely eliminate the problems we talked about earlier. So we changed our star rating from 2 to 5. (Yes, it's such an improvement.) :-) 2D image correction. just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to significantly improve the quality of this 55" 2D video with the settings listed on hometheater.com [hometheater+dot+ com: '] .(Just search for "LG 55LW5600 3D LCD HDTV". ) Blu-ray now looks extremely good... and much better than the default settings for adjusting the 3D image to fit the image further on the screen (which effectively gave us an extra 3 feet of eye strain and ) to access, just press * if it appears on the screen quick menu button 3D content* then select the top option to adjust the 3D settings From there you can use the bottom to send the 3D content further. back (left) of the picture option, or you can move it further in the other direction. -5 setting (approx. half to the left) was a good trade-off that improved the 3D image tremendously for us. longer nausea when squinting) still gives us no ghosting (Move Left vel was a little ghostly and didn't seem necessary, as the halfway adjustment seemed to alleviate the nausea we experienced while watching 3D content). So with that and the video settings we got the Hometheater + point. +com (Amazon is removing my link, hope my fake url works now) We are currently in love with the 55 inch model. So our final delay is that the 47-inch model is ready to go Plug in and WOW! While the 55-inch model needs a bit more work, it probably looks just as good as the 47-inch set. This is really nice. so we are keeping the 55" set and very happy with it. It took a little extra work but it was worth it.

Summary - If you're looking for an LED TV with 3D and Internet capabilities, this is a good buy. Background - This TV is mounted on the included stand and placed in a media box. television sits above the seated audience. Replaced a 5 year old Sony Bravida 40" LCD screen. Connected to an HD TiVo and a Sony Blu Ray. Setup - quick and easy. Manual adequate but not great. 'Pro' video setup is a nice feature and it allows gives fast best picture HDMI cables exit right corner to left of TV Placement not optimal as HDMI cables tend to be stiff and tight bends are not recommended Cables but zippers are a must for multiple cables Stand - Basic Swing from right to left but a should have included a tilt function. See 3D comment for explanation. A cable management slot on the stand not wall mounted would also be nice to keep cables clean Picture - sharp and clear no motion Superior artifacts on sony which replaces it but buy sony It was expected due to technical improvements since then - an ultra-thin screen suitable for TV I am after sound quality, I recommend an external amplifier and speakers: in general display , sound acceptable and voice clear. Blu-ray 3D - comparable to my expensive active 3D TV without flickering and related issues. Although the picture quality is not as good, I daresay most viewers will notice the difference. As mentioned in other reviews, ghosting occurs when the TV is tilted, does not point the TV directly at the viewer (a tilting stand was a nice feature for the LG, but unfortunately it does not rotate!) There is no obstruction to the 3D experience on the left or right of the TV. 2D to 3D - This TV does a good job of converting from 2D to 3D. If the film has depth of field and less action, it looks great, but the overall experience is very good. based on my previous experience with my active 3D TV, I expected much less and found this to be a compelling 3D experience. Internet TV - Fast and easy connection to Amazon.com. Netflix was also excellent. Due to some buffering issues, I want the TV to store more content locally while playing the video. Web browsing was less than adequate, and I didn't find it a useful experience because the TV didn't always respond to commands from the remote control. The apps are limited and I was wondering why no one is developing an Android based TV or an iOS based TV that has more apps to access. Remote Control - The default remote control is decent and neat, but unless you have an LG component, you'll need multiple remotes. A learning remote control would be a nice feature. The background of the keys is darker than I want. Magic Wand Remote Control - Think of a Wii controller for a TV.
