5:00 am No need to replace the bulb
For a traveler
I recommend the HLTXX87 series for the following reasons. 1) The LED engine eliminates the need for "bulbs" found in other DLP, LCD, SXRD/LCoS, etc. projection TVs. Those with bulbs need to be replaced every two years and cost about $300. And there is no "spinning color wheel" you may hear on some devices 2) The LED driver is designed to last around twenty years...that's a lifetime...reducing total cost of ownership and eliminating maintenance hassles . The service technician replaced the bulb a few days later... and the TV was gone 3) Samsung LED HLT devices only take 4 seconds to display after power on. Others can take more than 30 seconds... an eternity 4) Deep black. More vivid colors than other projection TVs. The design remains the same from product to product...so when Samsung releases the next generation of TVs...your TV won't look outdated. 6) Audio/Sound is not the best...but you definitely have a home theater system for a good experience. Others will put them behind the neutral position...preventing easy access to the plugs during installation and subsequent changes Samsung puts it on the back right side...which is easily accessible but completely invisible . Even the power cord is on the back right (and detachable) so it's easy to keep the big TV in the closet. 8) When changing/switching channels on some TVs... it may take a few seconds for the next channel to appear. On Samsung... only on demand. 9) No "screen window effect" and/or "background blur" on the LCD screen. High energy consumption without combustion and plasma. No slow loading times of the LCoS system. And the screen isn't glossy, where you can see reflections from windows and the surrounding area. Wide viewing angle. 10) The LED kit has a contrast ratio of 10,000 to 1. A very vivid image that you can adjust to your liking. I really liked my HLT6187. Not just for great photos, LEDs are the way of the future. Just think about car taillights and other lighting applications... LEDs are an evolutionary step forward.

4: Outstanding HD picture quality; White glove service is not so good
THEREFORE
This set is exceptional in terms of picture quality and HD performance. The regular non-HD channels aren't as good to watch, but it's still a great TV. As a former Samsung 50″ DLP owner, I have experienced Samsung quality first hand. This 61 inch set exceeded my initial expectations. DVD and video streaming through Windows Vista and Xbox 360 is excellent, no complaints. I recommend sitting at least 7-10 feet away from the screen as the picture quality degrades the closer you get, not to mention it's harder on the eyes. As for "white glove" shipping, it was not available through Eagle Freight. The set must be a "Most Wanted" item because the price has gone up on Amazon since I bought it two weeks ago; However, prices beat the top sellers. Overall it's a great TV and has many undisclosed features like software or firmware that can be updated via USB connection etc.

1: Do not buy this TV
According to mi2k2
I received this TV on 11/30. This is a severe case of the halo effect described in the "Consumer Warning" above. Although I love the TV and want to keep it, I have to give it the lowest rating because of the halo issue and the terrible service to fix it. TV is good but Hello totally blows me away. Appears as a blue/purple circular blob on the lower center screen in fairly high contrast scenes (extreme example: Harry Potter 5 Chapter 2: When Nymphadora comes and holds hands. Shows light source in Harry's dark room) . I have had terrible experiences with 3 Samsung service companies in the DC area. The first two Samsung customer service companies that were there for me never showed up or called me back. People from the third show up, but they don't seem to be aware of the problem at all. So far I have studied this matter well. Showed them various film images showing the halo and also showed test images from their avsforum (see MLXXXp's posts in the projector owners thread above on Samsung LEDs). But they wanted to take the TV for testing and then decide what to do with it. When I showed them the consumer notice on this site, they said they knew nothing about this problem. I also spoke to the Samsung customer service manager. He refused to hire another service company or service my home, even when I suggested I return the TV. I also warned him that Samsung cannot be held responsible for any warnings that Amazon posts on its website. Be prepared to potentially go through all of this when you buy it. Update on my return (01/25/08): I have now returned this TV again. After two emails, a faxed letter and several phone calls within 20 days, I contacted customer service "executive". The person I spoke to seemed to have a pleasant conversation and promised to take care of the problem. But my 60-day return deadline was approaching and I still wasn't satisfied with the site's service. I'm also annoyed by the sudden shutdown of the TV (after working fine for a while) that other people here have reported. In the end I settled on LCD (Sony 52xbr4 $2800 + $320 Sony 5 year warranty). When I compared the LCDs, I noticed that I didn't take into account the viewing angle of the 6187, which is much worse than most good LCDs. In a direct comparison, the best LCD screens look brighter and sharper. The repair rate for Samsung RPTV is 19% compared to 3% for Sony LCD. Other RPTV brands have worse repair rates. Update (6/2/08). Samsung has written to me that unless I send my TV to a designated repair shop, they will no longer be able to help me. They also left the address of the president of Samsung USA in case I wanted to screw it up. Doesn't matter to me anymore, but still an amazing answer! I'm getting the first responses to some emails I sent to customer service in January. They take 45-60 days to respond to customer service emails.
