5:00 For the price it's a real winner

Its rich and bright colors; complete set of inputs; extensive color calibration and menu system; black ink plasma Disadvantages: ineffective anti-reflective coating; main remote control; when the rotary motion is reversed. In short: This year's budget plasmas, the Samsung 50PNB450, Panasonic TC-P50X1 and LG 50PQ30 here, can be found for almost the same price. Each set has its pros and cons, but in my opinion this LG set is the strongest of the best of 2009 for big screens. This set looks great! The swivel mount has a soft oval shape at the front but tapers at the back so it can be pressed against the wall; thoughtful touch. All inputs are well labeled and easy to find, and LG has included a full range of cable connections and routing for your convenience, discreetly. There's even a handy microfiber cloth to smooth the shiny edges - a smart touch. It is a wonderful experience. When connected to an HD source (I have a Scientific Atlanta HD cable box, an XBox 360 and a Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-Ray player), the colors in standard mode are much better than the Panasonic plasma which I also have. LG includes a generous two "expert" modes that allow you to fully adjust each color channel, as well as make adjustments to grayscale, gamma and more. - this set easily beats the competition from Panasonic and Samsung, with the added bonus that 95% of viewers install it, think it's awesome and never touch it. There is an energy-saving mode that turns off the device based on the prevailing lighting conditions, and if there is no signal, the device turns off automatically. I will add that this unit does not hum, or at least it does much less than my Panasonic plasma. I could hear the Panasonic from where I was sitting 10 feet away, but it wasn't until I put my head over the LG that I felt anything. It looks like a better all-round package than this year's Panasonic. The speakers are well hidden under the set, and LG has included several sound enhancement modes, two of which, ClearVoice and Auto Volume, are particularly useful. This is more than adequate for night vision when we rest and relax the receiver. This set shows several signs of image conservation. The only time I see it is through Netflix's bright white and red interface menu via Samsung's Blu-Ray player. It disappears after a quick white wash. A pixel referee is included, meaning you don't have to worry about recording unless you've been missing the DVD menu all day. In terms of reflection, I think the coating combination is less effective than the Panasonic. and it's just a big glass. It's easy to plug in as long as you make sure there are no lights or windows in your line of sight and field of vision (the rotating base also helps a lot to minimize glare). As soon as the movie starts, it's clear you've made a good decision. The pixel grid and screen door effect are certainly visible from 3 feet away, but when you sit about 5 feet away, they disappear, leaving you with a clear, realistic and colorful window to the world. This is an amazing set, the best I have ever seen in my house and I have already paid over $2000 for a TV (34 inch high definition CRT TV). Black is black, white is white and everything else is true. It's hard to go wrong with this year's lineup at this price point, but the LG is the most luxurious and expensive of the bunch. Given its natural colors, high build quality, full feature set and fantastic image quality, this set comes highly recommended. Buy with confidence.

5:00 Best value for money.

You won't find a better 50-inch TV at this price. Color is displayed. I went to Sears to compare this set to Panasonic and Samsung, and this TV offers the best picture of the three. It has many features and settings in a more expensive set. Don't spend more money because the set has 1080p if you can't tell the difference. I don't know that my TV is 720p on the remote I'm watching, so why pay for it? This set has rich colors and good brightness and contrast. Skin colors are very nice, not orange or red like my 42" LCD. I'm watching TV, not the specs. Do yourself a favor and go to a Sears or other retail store and check out this set, then order online if you get a lower price.

4: Very good~

After blowing up Toshiba 62HM95 DLP 3 times (there was a lawsuit for a faulty lamp that only lasted 6 months), we thought it was time to ditch the DLP and buy a new set. On a tight budget, we're aiming for a sub-2K, 52" plasma or LCD, as we're considering a Vizio 55" 120Hz 1080dpi 550XVT1A or a Samsung 52" 120Hz 1080dpi VP550XVT1A 50" ... we've got this LG 50 seen ... plasma. $799 @ Costco from them. We stand for 15-20 minutes for these 3 sets. Seriously, I don't see much of a difference, the colors are brighter than the Vizio, but have almost the same contrast as the Samsung... so far... + $1k price difference !! ... I bought it at home, I got stuck myself and installed my Toshiba DVD player with HDMI upscaling ... wow !! ... movies played well, so much detail in black, we had a very bright living room (long windows on all sides, plus high ceilings) this TV was on; still works great. If you don't want to pay a lot of money for a TV, this is a good choice...
