I have it and it worked fine for about 15 minutes. After downloading the update, the bd690 shut down and the HDMI port stopped working. The component and composite output worked well. After trying both HDMI cables and connecting the bd690 through my Denon 3808 receiver and directly to the TV, it was clear that the bd690 was the problem. LG customer service was very quick to respond but the service was the best. The person was helpful but clearly read a script. After explaining everything I did, he asked me to check another HDMI cable etc. which I have already done. They even made me download the wrong update file the first time. I will update when I get my replacement. I hope the firmware update doesn't blow the HDMI port every time ... Update: (5/8/2011) I wanted LG to replace it on 5/7 because I haven't received it yet. This time they tell me that I will not have a replacement, but in fact they "fix" my device. Not what I was told on the phone 3 weeks ago and enough for a 7-10 day window. LG customer service immediately caught my eye. The conversation went like this. We are fixing it, so the service will take some time. I've been told I don't see a replacement postcard for 7-10 days so I can't get a new one? Yes, you will get it as soon as possible, but do you say yes to repair it, yes, do I repair it? Yep, at this point divide by zero and you're good to go!

If your main reason for choosing this type of drive over another is that it has its own internal hard drive, be aware that it is not very reliable to use. I've only uploaded videos from my camera, so copyright protection shouldn't be an issue. I can upload videos; Play video; Rename the video or do anything, then suddenly the BD690 completely freezes. I can't turn this guy off with the remote or even using the switch directly on the device, the only option is to unplug it from the wall. This is not a one time occurrence, it happens often.

Ok ... so I bought the LG BD590 because I don't have a 3D TV or won't soon. However, I bought it from Amazon.com ($199) for a great price. It was returned because it could not be updated properly ... Check out the LG BD590 reviews and you will see that every time someone tries to update the software there is an error when they say. Also, Netflix on BD590 is easy ... it lists different genres and categories and you can choose from those or your saved queue ... you can't search for movies by title. With the BD690 it's different: you can search by typing words like Xbox compatible Wii or Netflix. Also, I haven't done this yet, but it says that on the BD690 you can plug in an iPhone or iPad and use the keyboard to enter data. Also, the customer service rep I spoke with at LG told me that the MLB.COM app was not working on the BD590. Tried and subscribed to BD690 and the image is as amazing ... as bluray. The player was definitely something exclusive because the baseball game looked incredible and dynamic. Now welcome to the LG BD690---another reviewer commented that it doesn't have Amazon VOD...that's right...but when you update it asks for it, you have that and some to connect to the internet. And more, including a Google Portway to use the TV as a fully Internet-ready setup ... wow. This unit cost $50 more than my BD590 but it was worth it ... with the ability to do Hulu Plus and other things: games, puzzles and more ... I love this player ... and even if it costs another $50, along with a free $5.99 credit to watch a movie on Vudu ... Great, right there ... grab this player and you won't be disappointed! like this ... so until a software update fixes this I can't watch netflix ... freezes and no sound when I try to watch netflix ... everything else seems to work but there will be compatibility issues with software updates and Netflix.
