It's a really cool TV. The settings right out of the box are probably the best I've seen. Gorilla Glass 2 is extremely thin. This TV is half the size of the XBR HX929 and even lighter. To get the most out of this TV, I recommend the following: Leave the TV in Standard mode. Reduce the color saturation by 4% to 56. Turn off the occupancy sensor and the light sensor. Set Motionflow to Standard (never use any other, even a smooth one, as an awkward background will look too sharp). Disable motion stream when streaming SD, otherwise leave the default as motion stream processes backlight to achieve local darkness. Set the volume to standard, not dynamic. Boost bass to +8 and enable auto volume.3. These settings should be used for all connections including custom game mode. Don't use game mode 4 in my opinion. Use medium settings for 3D simulation, not low or high. It seems to be the only one that works well. That's all you have to change. The best LED TV I've seen, including the XBR. (I understand that this TV is a 2012 model and the XBR is a 2011 model). I'm sure the 2012 XBR will be impressive, but it's now the best LED TV on the market, with near plasma-best black levels and better light transmission through glass than a traditional LCD.

Received this TV in exchange from Sony on April 21st, so far it has been great. (Sony took the broken 820 and gave me the 850) 46ft. I will compare the HX850 to the HX820. Pros: * The thinnest bezel of any Sony TV * The silver border around the bezel adds a nice touch * Input lag is better at 2012850 * Needs some adjustments, at least in my case. * The speakers seem a bit small. This year is better but nothing extraordinary. Cons: * The remote control is junk, Sony has to return the remote control I used with the HX820. victims of cost cutting. Another great feature was eliminated in 2012 with Sony's new cost-cutting strategy. So-So's: * 3D rendering seems like an overall improvement over the 2011 HX820, but head tilting will ruin the picture. Maybe that's solved with the new 3D glasses? I use TDG-BR250 glasses. * Motion sensor missing. I didn't like this feature at all, but it was a good idea. Overall, the HX850 is a better TV than the HX820, which is saying a lot considering the HX820 was, and still is, an amazing bunch. Black levels are similar to the hx820 (excellent) and image quality has been improved. As always, Sony is at its best when it comes to displaying accurate, bright and colorful colors, to say the least. Good together!

Updated July 19th, 2012 - 55 The HX850 is such a good 2D TV with a good picture that I bought a second HX850, the 46 inch version. I would still recommend the HX850 with one caveat. We can't use 3D. Sony 3D should be listed as "Beta". I wouldn't have been too disappointed if I had been warned. I tried and lost. The 3D view was fun for the short-sighted, but the active glasses were uncomfortable to wear and strained the eyes. Maybe they would be ok if I was 20-20 and didn't need to wear corrective lenses. Sony let me return my glasses and wrote me a credit note. For practical reasons I now have two very good 2D TVs. I bought the 55 HX850 after reading the first reviews on Amazon. The positive reviews for this TV were just as true as the negative reviews from Sony support. The 55 HX850 and 46 HX850 have great looks and looks. The 2D image is so good it seems to have 3D properties. Great photo with a beautiful view. CNET agrees. See his note. I was so upset with the way Sony support treated me (in terms of dealing with domestic customers) that I bought a 46 inch Samsung for another room but the picture was in comparison to the HX850 pretty bad. So Samsung came back. I plan to keep the HX850 as my primary TV until 4K is available. I bought the 46 inch version for another room. For more than 40 years I have only bought Sony TVs (at least 10 TVs). Sony supports people who even link to their posts with many of my purchases. I was shocked that a very loyal customer's concerns were ignored. My apologies to John Mi. He got it right when Sony's support was so weak. The quality of Sony support varies. If you meet the right person it's good, but if you meet the wrong person it's a shame. Lousy support. It's a tragedy. It's a shame that Sony didn't follow Apple's lead. The Microsoft version of Apple and its stores are crowded. But the Sony stores are empty. I hope Sony finds out.
