My notes and notes here are specifically for people interested in trying out the Qumi Q2 on an iPad. I have good things to say and things to take care of. First, I'd like to point out that I only tested Qumi on the iPad 2, not the first generation iPad (although I think the experience would be comparable). At first I wasn't sure if Qumi would work with the iPad and was a bit hesitant to buy. For iPad users like me, it seems worth it. Displaying the iPad screen with Qumi works just fine. Projection is very simple. At 300 lumens, the picture is pleasant for a small projector. While you can easily see an image displayed in a room with reading level ambient lighting, if you are going to watch a feature film on a screen about 100 inches, it is best to watch the movie in a dark room. . Colors are bright and vibrant in a dark room. When I watched a movie through the Qumi projector, I was a little baffled because the colors didn't quite fit (my dark skin looked unnaturally red). I only discovered after watching the movie that the Qumi 2 projector allows you to adjust color and other settings like key correction. The Qumi 2 projector comes with several default color correction options. This can be found under PICTURE -> DISPLAY MODE. When I set the display mode to BRIGHT, I found that the projected color tones matched the iPad screen almost perfectly. The second closest color match was when the display mode was set to sRGB. Regarding Qumi's focus mechanism, I've read many critical reviews. My impression is that the Qumi Q2 problem is exaggerated. On the Comey side, I found the focusing mechanism to be a perfect fit. Several reviewers have reported that the device drifts quickly (due to thermal expansion) and does not stabilize until the device has been running for a while. I didn't realize it was a problem. I have Qumi "Q2" and I think it is a second generation product. However, after setting it up, I found that I didn't have to mess with focus. I also found that the projected image is equally sharp in the center and at the edges. Having said all these positive things about the approach, I have a few issues. To focus the displayed image, you need to rotate the focus ring. This makes it difficult to create the clearest possible image. A small movement up or down the loop and the image is still perfectly sharp. You don't really know how easy it is to picture. My suggestion to the manufacturer (maybe it's included, but I haven't found it yet) is to have an audio and visual test pattern in the settings to make it easier to know when the focus is on point. Qumi has several cables. I only used an HDMI cable. There seems to be one for VGA and it "should" work with the iPad if you have a VGA to iPad converter. Since VGA is analog, I wouldn't expect the picture to be as sharp as HDMI. I've used the iPad VGA adapter with other LCD monitors and have been very happy with it, with one exception... If you want to watch and view movies downloaded from the iTunes Store on your iPad, you're out. Fortunately, the stupid DRM (Digital Rights Management) mechanism detects that you are using a non-HDMI device and prevents the movie from playing. I say stupid because you can download the same movie from iTunes Store on your laptop, you just need to use a VGA connector and a regular old LCD monitor to watch the movie. I was worried that the same DRM mechanism would prevent Qumik from watching movies on the iPad. Fortunately, this is not a problem. Let me get this... If you have an iPad 2, buy an Apple Digital AV Adapter (model A1388, list price $39) and connect it via the HDMI cable that came with the Qumi Q2, it won't. The problem is to watch downloaded iTunes movies on iPad and watch them in 1080p HD. Since you're happy with all this, I have to tell you about the wrinkle (it has nothing to do with the Qumi projector itself)... For some reason, every time I download a movie from the iTunes Store, it looks like this. It takes a long time to download a movie (about an hour; for comparison, it takes 10-20 minutes to download a normal movie from your laptop over the same network). I don't know why loading on iPad is so slow. My advice is that if you want to watch movies using Qumi as a projector and use an iPad instead of a laptop to watch the movie, you should download it a few hours in advance. As for the Qumi projector cables, they are rather short. I wish they were longer, but I don't think it's a big deal. Interestingly, the Qumi projector comes with a pair of magnetic or dielectric sleeves to attach to both ends of the cable. They limit electromagnetic interference. Good to be included. But they only offer one pair (one for each end of the cable). In more expensive cables, these magnetic insulators will be embedded in the cable. I see this as a cost-cutting measure. It's not a problem, it's just something to keep in mind. In practice (on the topic of cables), the Apple Digital AV Adapter can be easily detached from the iPad (that's an Apple/iPad issue, not the Qumi). Lowest frequency and Cumi digital signal cuts off, causing the movie to stop completely. Therefore, care must be taken so that the iPad and its adapter do not interfere with watching a movie. After this review was posted, another reviewer [thanks Tiklar!] pointed out that the Qumi projector has a wired tripod. Removing the small square label on the bottom of the device reveals the tripod mount. :-) While watching feature films on Qumi/iPad monitor, there might be a problem getting iPad into power saving mode. Power saving mode is when the iPad screen turns off after inactivity to save power. It usually turns on when you do something like touch the screen. The iPad can enter this power saving mode while watching movies (the timing depends on the iPad settings, and you can adjust it easily). This power saving mode does not interfere with the movie being recorded by the Qumi projector. Keep playing even when your iPad is sleeping. If you want to stop the movie, you need to press the "Pause" button on the iPad screen. When the iPad falls asleep while watching a movie, the screen goes blank and you won't wake up without touching the iPad screen. My recommendation is to change your iPad's power management settings (I think General -> Auto-lock timeout) to set the timeout to Never. After watching a movie, you can always go back to the original settings. Another note about the Apple Digital AV Adapter... While using it to display the iPad screen on the Qumi display, the dual connector allows you to connect one iPad at a time to prevent iPad batteries from draining. . My personal opinion is that feeding them this way adds a lot of thread (but at least if you have options). I have other things to say about Komi. Touch controls are located at the top of the Qumi to access Qumi's menu options. In addition, the Qumi projector has a remote control (infrared). But in a dark room it is very difficult to read and press the correct buttons on the remote control, even if the buttons are slightly raised. The Qumi Projector comes with a nice travel case. The suitcase contains only the Qumi unit. There really isn't room for a full set of cables, let alone an AC adapter. Qumi Q2 looks like a high quality product. I wouldn't call it very difficult. I think they lowered the price to keep it low (like the magnetic case clip, inline woofers, poor documentation), but they left out important features. Please understand that I have limited this review to iPad users who are not sure if Qumi Q2 works well with iPad. To solve this problem, it was necessary to look at how they are used together and identify some bugs along the way. Bottom line: The Qumi Q2 delivers almost home theater quality display, but be prepared for some initial noise/setup to get it working properly. Against this background, I can safely say that I am happy to purchase and recommend the Qumi Q2.

Let's say I have an Optoma HD65, but because of the headlight and dimming here, I chose the LG HX300 (G). I can live well with that, but I wanted something close to 720p instead of 1080p. I don't need 1080p to watch it because most of the stuff I watch comes from Netflix or YouTube. 720p is good enough for HD quality and what I do. Then I searched for more LED projectors and found the LG HW300 and Qumi Q2. I was actually choosing the LG HW300 for DLNA to make it easier to play video/music in my bedroom and wardrobe without a bunch of wires. For the Qumi Q2, 300 lumens is more than enough for me. I can live with that because the LG HX300 is about the same, but I have to say the Q2 is a bit brighter. My only major problem is buying adapters for the HDMI cable and component (I haven't found one yet for that). There are no extensions/adapters for other video inputs (eg Wii). The menu is very simple. It is not possible to calibrate too often. R, G, B cannot be changed depending on the situation. The previous settings were fine. The brightness was over-saturated, but it wasn't too bad for me. On the plus side, the pixels are less noticeable compared to the LG HW300 thanks to the added pixels. The video played well, no stuttering, I didn't notice any rainbow effect, and the fan wasn't bad (bad in quiet scenes). ** One small issue, it wasn't working properly prior to this review. The red lamp was broken or something because the red under Mario's clothes was pure black. In addition to other photos and videos in which there is no red. Amazon was willing to replace it without any problem. Thank you Amazon. Vivit was a little slow to respond, but I accepted Amazon's offer because they responded faster. However, in general I am satisfied with the product. Update: After about two weeks of use. To be honest, I am very disappointed with the projector. Looks like it needs refocusing after turning off the projector and turning it on. If you're using it as a custom ceiling mounted theater, you literally have to get up every time and turn the focus wheel and never turn it off. It is very inconvenient and a huge inconvenience to me. I hope Vivitek addressed this issue differently by telling you to redirect it once it reached operating temperature. Update 08/27/11 - I'm starting to notice that my monitor is out of focus in some places, which is weird. The lower right side of the screen is dark and the middle left side is dark. This appears to be a common problem. Please purchase at your own discretion. Rating downgraded to 3 stars.

The Qumi projector was connected via HDMI to an Xbox 360. The volume on the Qumi's 1W speaker was so low it was barely noticeable, but you can turn on your surround sound knowing the Qumi is great and the lights are better. 100" picture displayed at 100" @ 1080p over Mini-HDMI over Mini-HDMI over HDMI Netflix and games (HD output quality) Netflix and related games (HD output quality) - ------- - Do not try 3D or BLU- RAY, however, note that I have a projector for the first time, this video was recorded with a Droid X (only 8 megapixels, which is not great) [...]
