After a year of delay, Logitech finally released Harmony 1000 on January 26, 2007. A warning for Mac users, although Logitech claims that this Harmony remote works (can be programmed) with Macs and clearly shows the Mac listed in the Dashboard. check. Box. At the moment, Harmony 1000 cannot be configured with your Mac. Many users on Internet forums have reported the same problem. Hopefully the Mac patch will be posted on the Logitech website. Too bad for Logitech, especially considering the one-year delay in product development. Secondly, if you have Harmony Remote with the web program, the web software will be a little less intuitive than your previous experience. In other words, if you hated old Logitech Online software, you will hate it in the '00s. The touchscreen itself looks and works fine, but like any touchscreen remote, you may want the buttons to be tactically rubbery. After about a week of using the touch screen. Because the default color touch screen buttons used by Logitech professionally are labeled consistently, DVR users may find that the remote control button layout works to their liking. So if you decide to change the function of any of the colored buttons, the old default name should be placed above your personalization button. Strange control. However, you can customize multiple pages of ugly buttons to your liking, but they will be black and white buttons placed in static tic-tac-toe mode. The lid of the box will not lead you to believe it. As with all touchscreens, you will need to "see before touch" each time you want to send a command. It's great when using an ATM, but not so great when watching TV in your room. I recommend that you take a tour of your local store to play with the 1000 before deciding to buy. It looks well built, but after two hours of using a commercial DVR, a $ 45 programmable remote isn't as comfortable in the hand. Also, when buying a touch screen remote, remember that there is someone next to you in the store who wants to upgrade to something smaller with real rubber buttons! To add to the fun, the user manual for this $ 500 wonder is not in the box or on the installation disc, but hidden inside the online remote control software. When updating firmware remotely over the Internet (using online software), there will be a Help Center - More Help button on the right side of the web page screen. Click on it and then "Manual" to download the 15-page PDF manual of the remote control. New buyers of the Harmony line may have a steep learning curve due to the "movements" philosophy. Remember that everything is done on the go and you are ahead. Don't waste time programming each "device" as usual. The Harmony remote does not work this way. You only have to enter your devices (audio / video components in your collection) once during the initial setup to give the database an overview of your devices. So focus on adjusting your activities (watching cable, watching DVD) for two or three days to get it right. If all of this sounds fun, you are sure to enjoy tuning this remote to perfection. But if spending hours in front of the computer configuring the remote seems wrong, then walk away.

I thought it would be appropriate to write a distant comment. Like many people, I was a little worried about purchasing this remote, even though Amazon recently had a huge discount on the 1000 extension cord and the RF combo. I already had an 880, but I needed a remote with a nice touch screen and radio frequency (RF) operation so I don't have to worry about my kids pointing the remote at another device. If you look at a lot of these reviews, people have had the remote for a long time, old or new. A software / firmware update was released in early February which fixed most or all of the issues presented, especially the remote pairing of the RF extender and the need to be fixed in the event of a power outage, etc. The touch screen itself was fine and works well. Use strong buttons. The RF extension and IR burst work well and the unit is fully customizable to work with your units. Having a bit of a problem getting the macro to work, I called Logitech and got the best tech support I've ever had. Problem solved politely and efficiently. Bottom line, if you are selling this stock, get an RF extender quickly (if needed), update the software / firmware when you set it up and be very happy. I've had Logitech Harmony 880 and some $ 200 to $ 400 models from the Home Theater Master line with remotes, and it's definitely a well-built model, albeit a distant one. Obviously, previous buyers seemed to be making a bad deal because Logitech didn't have all the bugs, but now buyers are getting a great model.

I was a previous owner of a Harmony 880 which is a great remote. It covers the fixed buttons, which allows you to remap the buttons to a new function. Harmony 1000 raises the bar. All relevant buttons and their labels are displayed on the touch screen. So, if you have a five disc CD changer, you will see options 1 to 5 listed for disc replacement. The screen is not very bright and very sensitive. True, sometimes you have to use two hands (it's a touch screen so it seems obvious !!), but you can keep your finger on the fast-forward button on the PVR and not accidentally press a button before the time is up. Fixed control buttons (volume, select, etc.) are easy to press with one hand. If needed, the touchscreen offers three steps to control complex devices, all marked very clearly. Referring to other comments: "Beta product" - n. Works as advertised. It took me less than 30 minutes to update the firmware, add 7 devices and set up 5 steps. The only thing I changed after updating the remote was the functionality - everything else worked perfectly. "The handle does not lock the mouse in place" - well, I'm glad it doesn't! It holds very firmly and is very easy to insert into the holder. "Battery life is short" - it doesn't matter if the base is close enough. The battery life of the remote is very reasonable and recharges quickly. So, if you have the money and want a touchscreen remote, this is a great product. Logitech was successful.
